Annual General Membership Meetings

  • Strathmore Elementary 3200 Beaverwood Lane Silver Spring, MD, 20906 United States (map)

Please come! Meet your neighbors, hear about the work of the Associations this past year, and learn about their future plans.

This is a snack pot luck meeting! Please bring – to share – Halloween leftovers, cookies, cheese, crackers, pretzels, or your favorite snack. Following long-standing tradition, our local Boy Scout
Troop/Cub Scout Pack will also be selling popcorn, and will hold a flag ceremony to start the evening.https://www.facebook.com/events/1836708539693094/#

You can cast your vote for your Civic and Recreational Association board members only at each of the annual meetings. Every vote is important, so do attend the meetings, learn the latest, and vote!

Civic Association Meeting 7pm:

MAREN HILL from Maryland-National Park and Planning Commission will present details of the Aspen Hill Vision Zero project, which aims to eliminate pedestrian deaths in Aspen Hill. Our input to this project is invited.

LINDA BEA, JOHN BOGASKY, ELLIOT CHABOT, LILLA
HAMMOND, and CHRIS SWAN terms are up. Fortunately, they graciously have agreed to run for another Civic Association Board 3 year term. These five individuals have served our community for many years, if not decades, and I am not sure what we would do if they decided to step down. Their work has been invaluable to our Community and the Civic Association. LINDA, currently our Secretary and our membership manager, is responsible for our excellent and useful Community Directory! And she also organizes our summer yard sale. JOHN is our Treasurer, and our listserv manager. He handles our fundraising, and runs the great movies at the pool. ELLIOT not only serves as our liaison to the greater Aspen Hill area and the Rec Association, but moderates the candidates forums at the Aspen Hill Library, and serves as assistant Bugle editor. LILLA has been the force behind our 4th of July events for many years. CHRIS has been editor of The Bugle for the last 6 years, and is responsible for our wonderful concert series at the pool each summer. I am so very thankful that they are willing to serve yet again for another term.

Please consider joining the Board.
We do have several vacant Civic Association Board positions.

Rec Association Meeting 7:30 p.m.

By-Laws Amendment
An amendment to the By-Laws is also scheduled to be voted on at the meeting. The amendment would allow proxies to be counted in determining whether a quorum is present at General Membership meetings. Currently, proxies are only allowed to be used in voting on changes in the assessments. The full text of the proposed
Amendment was mailed to all Recreational Association members in October.

Secretary Needed!
PAUL SPELMAN, who has faithfully performed the role of Secretary of the Recreational Association for the last 3 years has announced that he intends to step down after the November meeting. If you would like to perform an important community service and be the chief minutes taker for the Rec Board, please contact me at (301) 871-1113 or at echabot@usa.net. You do not need to be a Board member to be Secretary – any member of the Association is eligible. This is one of the many behind-the-scenes volunteer positions that makes it possible to keep our pool and community recreational facilities running.
